![]() Broccoli & red beets have always been part of our garden. They are not hard to grow and provide a crop over a long period. |
![]() We usually grow 5 or 6 varieties of sweet corn each year. This picture was taken in July, before tasseling. |
![]() My daughter, Kim is weeding lettuce while other early crops like peas (left) are forming pods. |
![]() Yes, I'm a Gravely fan; but the purpose of this picture was to note potatoes blooming in the garden. We usually will dig early potatoes soon after they bloom. They taste so good with fresh beans and a piece of ham.
|
![]() Kim has picked her quota of green beans on a late night prior to market day. We often will pick with headlights to offer the freshest produce we can. |
![]() Field grown tomatoes are supported by cages to allow better fruit and easier picking.
|
![]() I wanted to show the contrast of an early growth of pumpkin plants (above) vs. the plant canopy at maturity (right) |
![]() Of course these pumpkins were added to this photo for color effect. With such big leaves any maturing pumpkins are hardly visible before a frost.
|
![]() A view of our worked ground and orchard. Planning for crops is an important aspect of farming. We rotate crops to keep insect and disease problems to a minimum. |
![]() We had a bumper crop of squash a few years ago... so we put them in the freezer. |

Sweet peppers: We usually grow 8-10 varieties; from the sweet banana to the whoppers. | Eggplants: Standard types as pictured make up 2/3 of our eggplant crop. Chinese types are also grown. | String beans are planted every few weeks for a continuous crop. We grow green, yellow, flat and even purple. |

Hot peppers: We grow many types- Pablano, Anaheim, Hungarian wax, Cherry, Jalopeno, Cayenne, Habanero and super hot Carribbean Reds | Pumpkins ready for harvest. We grow different types for size and flavor | We usually have snow peas at earlier markets. Then the sugar snap types and pod types follow. |
